Path of Exile Item Upgrading

Components

A glyph that has been crafted can increase the chances of upgrading its target, while a boost upgrade increases the attack or defense attributes of the weapon.
Selecting an upgrade template from the GUI will allow you to connect it to an item. This will show the upgrade components that the item can be updated. You can also use the workbench for selecting an upgrade template. In either case, an item will be upgraded after enough upgrade components have been collected.
Each component has a distinct experience multiplier that affects how much more experience an item receives when it is upgraded by the component. Organic components, for instance, have more experience multipliers than mechanical components. Therefore, it is recommended to upgrade using organic components until you have reached the experience multiplier for the next level of the weapon or gear, and then change to mechanical upgrades.
Each item has a maximum upgrade number that is available for. The number of upgrades available is determined by its upgradeable rank and the type of upgrade available to the upgradeable item. Sets
