World of Warcraft Upgrades and Item Upgrading
Upgrades can boost the value of armors, weapons and rings. Upgrades also increase bonuses such as Crit chance and PvE Damage.
If the template for upgrading a weapon ends in %, it will be able to gain an additional 3% of the previous damage each time it is upgraded.
Item upgrading costs crests and the current level of the item. The cost increases as the item level increases.
Components
Upgrade components are items that can be put into weapons, armor, and trinkets to give an additional stat boost or effect while they're in use. These can be obtained through crafting, buying from vendors trading, or looting. Certain upgrades come with special cosmetic effects.
Upgrade components can be placed in equipment with a slot for them; the item must be at a minimum upgraded to blue level to allow a component to be applied. Unlike other mods, upgrade components can only be used once; they can't be used multiple times or replaced with upgrades. Infusions and enrichments are a particular kind of upgrade component that is that is designed for non-amulet ascended and legendary equipment as well as the non-ascended back items. Enrichments and Infusions can be obtained by salvaging equipment from the ascended state or completing a quest in the Prophecies, Factions, and Nightfall campaigns.

Leveling

Each item level requires different components, and the cost of upgrading increase with each level.
Some upgrades require an ingredient to be activated. This ingredient is obtained by completing Upgrade Recipes. These recipes can be purchased from NPCs or found on the upgrade tab of the crafting table. Each Upgrade Recipe completed will result in a certain amount of Technology points. Item upgrades can sometimes be rerolled, provided that the player has enough tokens to be able to do this. This will cause the item to be traded for a new one, which will have the level 1 base, and a completely different set of bonus bonuses. This can be useful for certain items, however it's not something that should be performed frequently, since it can waste many resources.
